James Franco’s ‘Howl’ releases new trailer and poster
By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: Howl was certainly a provocative choice to open the Outfest Film Festival last week.
The movie stars James Franco as poet Allen Ginsberg and gives the young actor one of the best roles of his career. We get a front row seat to Ginsberg’s development as an artist and as a man and of the era of the obscenity trial Ginsberg faced after the publication of his poem, Howl.
Directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, Howl also boasts a very effective performance from Mad Men star Jon Hamm as the defense attorney. David Strathairn is terrific, as usual, as the prosecutor and the actors portraying the witnesses called to testify are a real all-star team that includes Jeff Daniels and Mary-Louise Parker.
There is a new trailer and poster [source: New York Magazine] just released that are obviously designed to maximize the commercial appeal of a film that could be a hard sell because, well, it doesn’t have a superhero in it or any 3-D scenes!
