Anne Hathaway’s jailed ex-lover won’t be returned to native Italy Anne Hathaway’s ex-lover Raffaello Follieri will not be released from U.S. prison and returned to his native Italy for the remainder of his sentence.

Follieri’s attorney, Flora Edwards, recently dismissed rumors. Under the federal prisoner-transfer program, foreign prisoners can serve the rest of their sentence abroad, in their country of origin.

The con man, 31, was jailed in December 2008 for four and half years on 14 counts of wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering. He swindled as much as $3.6 million from investment funds and real estate firms per Contactmusic.

Hathaway broke up with Follieri in June of that year, before his arrest for the scam.

Follieri won’t be eligible for a return to Italy until May 2012.
