Twilight’s Taylor Lautner turns down X-Men role
By Kim Palacios
Though approached by producer Bryan Singer to take a prominent role in “X-Men: First Class” it has been confirmed that Twilight’s Taylor Lautner turned the part down.
“I wanted Taylor to do it, I really did,” Singer said to Blastr. “He’s doing a movie in Pittsburgh called “Abduction”, and then he’s got the next Twilight movie. We talked about it a lot. He is a friend. And I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn’t look like it’s possible to do it.”
As with all the Twilight actors, Lautner’s commitment to film “Breaking Dawn” this fall and into next year will mean that his dance card is full, a factor that played into lengthy negotiations that stalled the final Twilight Saga film’s contracting progress this year. Actors Lautner, Stewart, and Pattinson are believed to have done well, compensation-wise, for the final Twilight films. Yet, other actors griped about comparatively low pay at a high opportunity cost.
Having spent months at a time for years in a row tied up in filming and promoting the Twilight films, the younger actors have gained exposure among the Twilight fan base but may have turned down roles that would have broadened their careers. The Twilight empire may have catapulted all the actors to international fame, but it is likely that most actors in the films are ready to move on.
