Sam Raimi saddling up for sci-fi Wyatt Earp film

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: How many marriages of classic westerns and science fiction can we stomach?

As “Iron Man” Jon Favreau diligently prepares his “Cowboys and Aliens” — a vehicle based on Scott Mitchell Rosenberg’s graphic novel that stars Daniel Craig, Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde and Harrison Ford — news breaks that a similar but different project just got the greenlight.

This time, fellow comic book director Sam Raimi (“Spider-Man”) is attaching himself to “Earp: Saints for Sinners,” another adaptation of a graphic novel that this time sends legendary cowboy Wyatt Earp into a futuristic world where he takes on criminals in a rundown version of Las Vegas. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Raimi would move on to Earp for DreamWorks once he has finished shooting “OZ, the Great and Powerful,” a semi-prequel to “The Wizard of Oz.”

What do you think? Too many sci-fi and western combos? Or are you excited to see what Raimi can do with the Wyatt Earp concept?
