Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt win settlement against News of the World

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie settled a privacy claim filed against the newspaper, News of the World, today, accepting an undisclosed sum of money in the legal settlement.

The Hollywood mega-stars sued the publication in January for a story that claimed the married couple would separate, and already had agreed to custody terms, the BBC reports.

Pitt and Jolie did not appear in London’s High Court today, but their lawyer was there to report that the paper’s claims were “false and intrusive.” Furthermore, the divorce lawyer referenced in the article — Sorrell Trope of Schillings Lawyers — issued a statement saying he’d never met with the couple, as claimed.

“I have never met … your clients or had any involvement with either of them. The foregoing is true with respect to all other members of this firm,” said Trope in a letter.

News of the World has agreed to publish an apology, as well as pay Pitt and Jolie’s costs and damages, which will be donated to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
