Daniel Craig confirmed for Fincher’s “Dragon Tattoo,” but who will play Lisbeth?

By Sean O’Connell The James Bond franchise might be on ice, but that doesn’t mean current 007 Daniel Craig is sitting idle. Last weekend, Craig helped Jon Favreau promote their upcoming collaboration, “Cowboys & Aliens.” And today, the actor’s name is linked with another potentially lucrative franchise.

Craig will star as sullied journalist Mikael Blomkvist in David Fincher’s adaptation of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” which is based on Stieg Larsson’s bestselling novel, reports. Craig also is linked to the remaining parts of the literary trilogy, “The Girl Who Played with Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest,” if Fincher’s film takes off.

With Craig confirmed eyes turn to the role of Lisbeth Salander, a cyber-sleuth who accompanies Blomkvist on his cases (and steals scenes with her hard-hitting ways). Though many actresses have been linked to the role of Lisbeth — from Carey Mulligan to Natalie Portman — no one has yet to sign on the dotted line.

“Dragon Tatoo” will be in theaters on Dec. 21, 2011. Once we hear who is playing Lisbeth Salander, we’ll let you know.
