Justin Timberlake a judge candidate for ‘Idol’

HollywoodNews.com: Add Justin Timberlake on the replacement list for Simon Cowell on “American Idol.”

It was recently revealed that “Idol” producer Simon Fuller is courting Timberlake as well as Elton John. The British press has known about John as a contender for some time.

The Hollywood Reporter also writes that reality producer Nigel Lythgoe is returning as executive producer. He will be key in revamping the show, potentially nixing the entire judges panel. Lythgoe assisted in propelling “Idol” across the pond and shepherded the U.S. version for six years.

“I would replace the entire judging panel,” Lythgoe told Zap2It in April. “I don’t think it really works replacing one person.”

Whether or not this occurs hinges on who is selected to replace Cowell.

The Hollywood Reporter foresees grey clouds with this maneuver as Randy Jackson has a year left on his contract and Ellen DeGeneres has a multiyear deal at Fox.
