Paul Bettany hunting vampires in Comic-Con “Priest” trailer

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Paul Bettany’s “Legion” didn’t necessarily inspire us to see him in any more supernatural, gothic thriller. The new trailer for “Priest,” however, might be changing our mind.

Directed by Scott Charles Stewart, “Priest” follows a servant of the church (Bettany) who betrays his vows to hunt the vampires who’ve kidnapped his niece. The movie’s being adapted from a popular TokyoPop graphic novel series, penned by Min-Woo Hyung. A trailer made its debut at Comic-Con, and it’s currently housed over at FirstShowing.net.

The look is gruesome … in a good way. The vampires look more like spawns of the “Alien” creature. Bettany’s playground looks like the spawn of “Blade Runner.” According to the trailer, the film fuses sci-fi and western genres to traditional horror. A volatile mix.

ScreenGems seems to have faith in “Priest.” They are releasing it in the heart of next year’s summer season — May 13, 2011 — in 3-D.
