Ricky Gervais will not replace Steve Carell in U.S. version of “The Office”

HollywoodNews.com: Will Ricky Gervais replace Steve Carell on the U.S. version of “The Office,” and reclaim the role the thesp originally played in the U.K. series?

“Ricky Gervais? There’s no way,” Steve Carell told ABC News. “He doesn’t want to do that at all.”

The name of Gervais’ character in the BBC version of “The Office” was David Brent.

The British comedian supported Carell’s move to exit “The Office.” For the last five years, Carell has played Michael Scott.

“He sent me a nice e-mail when I announced I was leaving,” Carell said, “He’s really sweet.”

The seventh season of The Office – Carell’s last – will premiere on NBC on September 23.
