Disney sells Miramax for $660 million

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: The Disney-Miramax marriage has been annulled.

In other words, Disney finally completed a sale on the film shingle. Miramax sold for $660 million to Filmyard Holdings, LLC, this morning, ending several weeks of furious bidding between the Mouse House and several potential Miramax buyers. Reuters reports.

With the sale comes ownership of various Oscar-winning projects shepherded to the screen by Miramax, most under the leadership of former studio heads Bob and Harvey Weinstein. Those titles include “Shakespeare in Love,” “Chicago” and “No Country for Old Men.”

“Although we are very proud of Miramax’s many accomplishments, our current strategy for Walt Disney Studios is to focus on the development of great motion pictures under the Disney, Pixar and Marvel brands,” Disney Chief Executive Robert Iger said in a statement.
