Taymor’s “The Tempest” blowing into New York Film Festival

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Julie Taymor’s “The Tempest” seems to be the movie of choice for film festivals this fall.

Days after officials from the Venice Film Fest announced that Taymor’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic text would close their annual event, the New York Film Festival followed suit, tagging “Tempest” for its Centerpiece Selection.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Tempest” will have its North American premiere on Oct. 2, at Alice Tully Hall.

Helen Mirren leads Taymor’s ensemble, playing Prospera. She’ll be joined on screen by Russell Brand (Trinculo), Alfred Molina (Stephano), Djimon Hounsou (Caliban), and Chris Cooper (Antonio).

This year’s New York Film Festival will open on Sept. 24, with David Fincher’s anticipated “The Social Network.” For more details on this year’s event, visit http://www.filmlinc.com/nyff/index.html.
