The Black Eyed Peas score digital download record

HollywoodNews.com: Who says that the music business is dying?

According to Nielsen Soundscan, the Black Eyed Peas’ single “I Gotta Feeling” became the first song to sell 6 million units in digital downloads.

Pollstar was following the news.

Bandleader will.i.am exclaimed “We came out in ’98 and our career, if you would look at it on chart, there’s no dips in it…For our career to still be healthy and vibrant and doing things like 6 million downloads, it’s pretty significant.”

Even more marvelous is the fact that music listeners shelled out to own the track. Quite often, digital downloads are stolen off the internet.

“That means that they chose to support the group, support the art,” will.i.am said about digital downloads, “God knows how many people listened to it online and didn’t buy it, downloaded it for free and didn’t think about it.”

“It’s a positive, feel-good song at the time where there’s question marks and uncertainty. People want to be reminded that it’s going to be all right,” he said.

“I Gotta Feeling” is one of the tracks from the group’s 2009 multiplatinum album “The E.N.D.”

The Black Eyed Peas’ next album, “The Beginning” might be out by the end of the year.
