Daniel Day-Lewis to sleuth in ‘Sherlock Holmes 2′

HollywoodNews.com: Daniel Day-Lewis is joining Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes” sequel.

The director has been searching for a prolific actor to play Holmes’ nemesis Professor Moriarty.

Day-Lewis, who won a best actor Oscar for his work in “There Will Be Blood,” will join Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law who respectively reprise their roles as Holmes and Watson in the feature.

At one point, Ritchie considered casting his former “Snatch” thespian Brad Pitt in the part, but his budget couldn’t stretch that far.

U.K.’s The Sun had the scoop.

“Sherlock Holmes,” which was released in December, has minted $517 million at the worldwide box office.
