Carey Mulligan not gritty enough for U.S. remake of ‘Dragon Tattoo’

HollywoodNews.com: UPDATE: Carey Mulligan was passed over by director David Fincher for the role of Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” because she was too “clean cut.”

Mulligan has been out of the running for the part for some time, however, an inside source reveals “She just didn’t fit the part. David is casting again – only this time the actresses will have full hair, make-up, wardrobe and piercings, which wasn’t done in the earlier tests.

“David thought Carey was too clean-cut and is looking for someone a little more gritty.”

The Mail on Sunday had the news.

Back in the spring, the British press became ecstatic when Mulligan was rumored to be in the running for the Goth-like role.

Reports at the time reported that Mulligan could have pulled in close to $16 million from starring in the U.S. reboot of the Swedish trilogy.
