“Other Guys” knocks “Inception” off its box-office perch

By Sean O’Connell

Hollywoodnews.com: “Inception” was toppled at the box office this weekend by a couple of “Other Guys.”

Adam McKay’s comedy, which stars Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell as mismatched NYPD officers, took in an estimated $35.6 million – good for the top slot at the domestic box. If the number holds, it would be Ferrell’s highest opening weekend since 2006’s “Talladega Nights” (also directed by McKay).

Christopher Nolan’s mind-messer “Inception” dropped 32% in its fourth weekend for an $18.6M grab, pushing its overall haul to $227.7M.

In third place was the weekend’s only high-profile debut – “Step Up 3D” – which earned $15.5M in its opening weekend.

A complete list of the Top 10 is below:

1. “The Other Guys,” $35.6 million.

2. “Inception,” $18.6 million.

3. “Step Up 3-D,” $15.5 million.

4. “Salt,” $11.1 million.

5. “Dinner for Schmucks,” $10.5 million.

6. “Despicable Me,” $9.4 million.

7. “Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore,” $6.9 million.

8. “Charlie St. Cloud,” $4.7 million.

9. “Toy Story 3,” $3 million.

10.”The Kids Are All Right,” $2.6 million.
