“Green Lantern” scribe already tapped to write a sequel

By Sean O’Connell

Hollywoodnews.com: How do we know “Green Lantern” will be any good? We’re nearly a year away from the film’s June 2011 release date, and Warner Bros. already has greenlit a sequel.

That’s about as strong a vote of confidence as any film can get. Variety reports today that “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” scribe Michael Goldenberg has been tapped by the studio to start a “Green Lantern 2” script. That’s 10 months before audiences will even see Ryan Reynolds as the legendary DC Comics superhero.

Martin Campbell directed the first “Green Lantern,” which opens on June 17, 2011. The superhero adventure also stars Blake Lively, Mark Strong and Peter Sarsgaard. We’ll know for sure if any of those characters will be able to return for future sequels once we finally see the first picture, but this is great news for the potential of the “Green Lantern” film franchise.
