TRUE BLOOD Anna Paquin is ‘Hollywood TV Star of the Week’
By Anthony D’Alessandro
HollywoodNews.com: One doesn’t have to scratch their head for long wondering why a gaggle of vampires and werewolves are infatuated with Sookie Stackhouse on HBO’s ‘True Blood.’
Being the straight girl in a Southern town full of crazies, Sookie remains sweet, sincere, spunky, strong and just downright sexy. Armed with her supernatural ability to read others’ thoughts, Sookie is like a superhero without the suit; audacious and determined to set ‘fright’ right in Bon Temps.
Getting thrown from one erratic, bloody situation to a coma requires range from an actress and it’s the talent of Anna Paquin who makes Sookie multi-dimensional. After all, when you’re living in a mystical world populated by monsters, you can’t react to life by being dry, deadpan and straight-faced (Bella from ‘Twilight,’ take note).
Off camera, Paquin is fearless. She’s one of the few actresses brave enough to come out about her sexual orientation without any backlash to her career (Paquin stars next in Kenneth Lonergan’s drama ‘Margaret’ opposite Matt Damon and Mark Ruffalo. At the same time, Paquin makes no apologies about being head over heels about her ‘True Blood’ onscreen lover and co-star Stephen Moyer.
At times, when child actors walk away with Oscars, critics gripe that the little thespians will dwell in the shadow of their career for eternity. Since winning at the age of 11 for her best supporting turn in ‘The Piano,’ Paquin has demonstrated that her dramatic chops are worth more than their weight in gold.
