James Cameron blows out candles, 5,200 feet below sea level

HollywoodNews.com: Some Hollywood icons throw their birthday at Spago, others on a yacht and for some at their spread in the Hollywood Hills.

But for James Cameron, birthday bliss is being under the sea.

In celebration of his 56th birthday, the Hollywood Reporter wrote that the “Avatar” director celebrated in a submersible beneath Russia’s Lake Baikal.

Cameron, a longtime ocean enthusiast, chose the body of water as it is the oldest and largest lake in the world. Cameron with the crew allegedly descended 5,200 feet.

If the birthday festivities failed to go according to plan, Cameron had an alternative choice: “Unless it’s bad weather, in which case I’ll be getting drunk with the Russian crew in the port.”

The director supposedly used his birthday dive as a chance to prep for another underwater feature he plans to shoot prior to “Avatar 2.”

Currently, Cameron is designing a 3D underwater camera and building a submarine that can plunge 36,000 feet — twice as deep as anyone has gone before.

Cameron has mentioned in prior reports that “Avatar 2” is set to take place underwater.
