“X-Men: First Class” cast expands to include Byrne, Platt

Hollywoodnews.com: Who isn’t in Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class”?
Let’s run down the actors we already know will be in the “Kick-Ass” director’s “X-Men” prequel. James McAvoy is playing Prof. Charles Xavier. “Ingourious Basterds” star Michael Fassbender will play his rival, Magneto. Alice Eve has been cast as Emma Frost, while Kevin Bacon is going to be playing Sebastian Shaw. It was rumored that Rosamund Pike was up for the role of Moira MacTaggert, but that part just went to Rose Byrne (good choice). And Jennifer Lawrence of “Winter’s Bone” will assume the role of Mystique.
Is there room for anyone else? There better be, as Deadline now reports that Oliver Platt is going to play The Man in Black. No idea who that character is, and I grew up on “X-Men” books. Screenwriters Jane Goldman, Ashley Miller and Jamie Moss must be deviating from the comic book norm as they prepare Vaughn’s story, which will tell of the early days in Xavier’s school for gifted mutants. It’s an origin story of sorts, yet only a few original X-Men – like Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and Havok (Lucas Till) – are scheduled to show up.
“X-Men: First Class” begins filming soon, targeting a June 3, 2011 release date.
