Angelina Jolie on Norma Jeane role: ‘This is a new rumor’
HollywoodNews.com: While Angelina Jolie is flattered that some creative out there sees her in the role of Marilyn Monroe, alas she will not be playing the famed actress.
“This is a new rumor,” Jolie told reporters at the “Salt” London premiere, “It sounds very nice – I just haven’t got the phone call yet. You guys will probably know before I do.”
“Angelina is NOT attached to this project,” Jolie’s rep told the L.A. Times.
Author Andrew O’Hagan recently announced that Jolie beat out Scarlett Johansson and Christina Hendricks to play the part of Monroe in the feature adaptation of his novel “The Life And Opinions Of Maf The Dog, And Of His Friend Marilyn Monroe. “
O’Hagan’s novel is a bestseller in the U.K., but won’t hit U.S. shelves until December. The story is told from the p.o.v. of Monroe’s pooch Mafia Honey (“Maf”) who was gifted to her by Frank Sinatra in 1960. Maf witness the final two years of Monroe’s life.
One actress who is playing Monroe, but in a different feature altogether is Naomi Watts. As reported in April, Watts will headline “Blonde” directed by Andrew Dominik (“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford”).
