Hollywoodnews.com: Roadside Attractions is setting itself up for an Oscar push, having acquired the U.S. rights to Alejandro González Iñárritu’s drama, “Biutiful.”
“‘Biutiful’ joins the growing pantheon of tremendous, groundbreaking work by Alejandro González Iñárritu,” said Roadside Attractions co-president Howard Cohen, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a deeply felt film, guaranteed to rock audiences to their core, and that’s due to the amazing reciprocity between filmmaker and actor.”
“Biutiful” played Cannes to mixed-positive reactions, though most everyone who saw it left praising Javier Bardem’s performance as a conflicted man working his way back to redemption. It’s likely Roadside will put its weight behind Bardem in the Best Actor race. Other potential categories will be decided as the film continues to screen.
“Biutiful” will play the Toronto International Film Festival prior to Roadside releasing it in theaters this December.
