Jeremy Renner joins Tom Cruise for fourth “Mission: Impossible”

By Sean O’Connell The talented Jeremy Renner continues to build off his successful turn in “The Hurt Locker,” parlaying participation in the Oscar winner into some high profile gigs.

Renner will next be seen as a tough-as-nails bank robber in Ben Affleck’s “The Town.” After that, it’s being reported that he will join Tom Cruise for the fourth “Mission: Impossible,” directed by Brad Bird.

It’s uncertain what role Renner will play in the sequel, though The Hollywood Reporter suggests he’ll be Cruise’s teammate (and possible successor).

Renner also landed the coveted role of Hawkeye, master archer, in Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers,” which will be out in 2012.
