New info on ‘The Hunger Games’ movie adaptation
HollywoodNews.com: Hollywood is hungry for “The Hunger Games”. In the wake of last week’s much-hyped release of “Mockingjay”–the third and final book in the Suzanne Collins trilogy–the production team in charge of the trilogy’s adaptation to the big screen is getting serious about the project.
In a new Daily Beast article detailing the dystopian premise of the series (in which teenagers are pitted against each other in an arena for a televised fight to the death) and the creative fervor of its millions of fans both teenage and adult, producer Nina Jacobson is quoted as saying the film version “should absolutely be rated PG-13…it would be wrong to make the R-rated version of it. The situations are so intense and frightening; it’s just going to be a matter of creating suspense. The power of movies can be just as much about what you don’t see as what you do.”
Collins herself wrote a screenplay draft, and Billy Ray (the man behind the upcoming film adaptation of “24″) polished it. The film is still sans director, however. “The book’s ethics are clear, and we will find a director who can handle the material in the right way,” Jacobson says. “Suzanne was rightly concerned that it had the potential to be turned into something she hated, glorifying the violence the book is meant to critique.”
She continues, ““What Suzanne managed in the book is to explore violence and exploitation without it feeling exploitative or guilty of its own themes. It pulls off being commentary and a really gripping page-turner at the same time.” Fans can hope the upcoming film finds the perfect balance.
While the film remains uncast, who do you see as the characters, “Hunger Games” fans?

Tim Urban as Gale, William Moseley as Peeta and an unknown as Katniss.
I think they should cast Kaya Scodelario as Katniss Everdeen. Then either Hunter Parrish or Alex Pettyfer as Peeta and then Gaspard Ulliel as Gale.
I’d love to see Jaimie Alexander as Katniss, Matt Dallas as Cinna, and Hunter Parrish as Peeta
Ellen Page would be an excellent Katniss Everdeen.
I think they should choose an unknown person to play Katniss’ role. Every actress I know just doesn’t seem right. The girl has to be tough tho, not some pretty Barbie doll (no offence).
I dont know much about this actress, but I picture her as a Vanessa Hudgens type
Hey , what about auditions?!? There’s a rumor going around about there being an auditions tour! Can ya say something about that whether it’s true or not?!
Hunter Parrish has to be Peeta! He’s perfect for the role! Please Lionsgate. Please, Please, Please! Listen to the fans!
WILLIAM MOSLEY as Peeta! He is perfect for the role. Please. Please! Johnny Depp as Haymitch. Hugh Dancy or James Marsden as Cinna. Kaya Scodelario or Troian Bellisario as Katmiss. Drew Roy as Gale. Kristin Chenoweth as Effie. For all that is good in this world please pick William Mosley!!!!!!!!!!!!
For Haymitch it can only be Robert Downy Jr.!!!!!!!
Malese Jow as Katniss
Zane Holtz as Gale
Austin Butler as Peetah
Terence Stamp or Malcolm McDowell as President Snow
and
Jeremy Irons as Haymitch
Those are the only people that I can actually visualize when I’m reading the story.
Malese is definitely my Katniss…
The only person I can see for Haymitch is Hugh Laurie…he’d be perfect!
Katniss CANNOT be a well known actress (and I love Twilight as much as the next, but if Kristen Stewert is even considered for this role I will not see this movie…she ruined Twilight, don’t let her ruin another great book series).
Malese jow as katniss
Hunter parrish as peeta
Hugh Dancy would be a wonderful choice for Cinna, that’s how I pictured him through all three books.
The kids all deserve to be unknowns or little-known newbies, but my choice for Haymitch is Eddie Izzard, who is the right age and has a world-weary look to him. I’d like Kristin Bell as Effie, I think.
Katniss – Emily Browning
Peeta – John Patrick Amedori or William Moseley
Gale – Drew Roy
Effie – Miranda Richardson or Kali Rocha
Prim – Elle Fanning
Cinna – Hugh Dancy
Haymitch – Hugh Laurie or Timothy Spall
Snow – Daniel Day Lewis, Terence Stamp or Malcom McDowell
I actually think this story would work much better as a three-season run television series…in the vein of many well produced HBO dramas. That’s my 2 cents. I think a series would really allow the breathing room required to get the full experience, as well as be a good parallel between being a show about a show.
I think they should use unkown actors for the roles. It’s always nice to see new faces that haven’t been on screen before.
Katniss – Emily Browning or unknown
Peeta – William Mosely!
Gale – Chris Riggi, Taylor Lautner (if he could be a good actor), or an unknown
Haymitch – Robert Downy Jr.!
Cinna – Hugh Dancy
Prim – Elle Fanning!
Madge – Charlotte Arnold!
President Snow – Daniel Day Lewis
Rue – unknown
Katniss’ Mom – Kelly Rutherford
Really? PG-13? they couldnt have bumped it up at all? i really hope this movie doesnt kill the series for me. I was really hoping for something very VERY close to the book. And you just cant have blood in PG-13 -.- Grrr haha xD
i think jack black should be haymicth ahaha yeah… and that it should atleast have some blood and probably be a M film i mean cmon!!! it’ll look sooo lame without any blood wach character would just be like vanishing when thgey die totally kick out the action…
I cant imagine any actor I know of Playing any of the characters. I think if you had anyone familiar it would automatically ruin the entire thing as the characters are so un glamorised. Please not William Mosely or Hunter Parish as peeta, no disney stars and if I hear any mention of a former twilight star being offered the role i think I might throw up. And PG 13? Just from that it seems like the movie might ruin the books, I hope i’m proved wrong..
katniss- an unknown (DEFINITELY NOT KRISTEN STEWART!!)
peeta- alex pettyfer
gale- scott michael foster
haymitch- hugh laurie
prim- lexi ainsworth
cinna- matt dallas
And the movie shouldnt be PG.
If it stays true to the books, it would at least have to be MA.
the entire time i’ve read the books i’ve pictured Troian Bellisario from Pretty Little Liars as Katniss, Hugh Laurie as Haymitch, and William Mosely as Peeta. And the rest are just projections of my imagination. haha
Ellen Page would stink!! Is that a joke?!
Dear god please not Malese Jow as Katniss!! She’s freaking ugly! I couldn’t watch her for the length of the movie. She would ruin the series! Not Alex pettyfer either!! He’s not cute enough. WILLIAM MOSELY. He’s perfect for Peeta. That’s how I pictured him for the whole series! I will be soo disappointed if he doesn’t get the part. I LOVE Troian Bellisario for PLL and NCIS she would be a great Katniss. Her or Kaya Scodelario. Hugh Dancy or James Marsden for Cinna. And Johnny deep would be perfect for Haymitch. I pictured Drew Roy as Gale but his acting is questionable. I really hope the movie doesn’t ruin the series!
William Mosely as Peeta, Christian Coulson as Gale, and as the others have said, an unknown for Katniss. :]
William Moseley as Peeta, Drew Roy, Tim Urban or Taylor Lautner as Gale, James Marsden as Cinna and Johnny Depp as Haymitch. I would like Katniss to be played by an unknown as I would not be able to picture many current actresses as Katniss. It seems like a great part and I would love to play it myself
I would love to see all new actors/actresses playing the parts of the main characters. Auditions would be great. I think it would really make the movie real, without the usual celebrity.
I think Philip Seymour Hoffman should play Haymitch.
I think Katniss has to be an unknown actor.
i completely agree with the comment about making it a tv series as i doubt the pg-13 movie will have time or drive to go into the social issues in the books, while a tv series would have time to show the complicated moral aspects of war fare that are more a focus in the 2nd and 3rd books. though in the end these are kid’s books so the movie will be made for and marketed at 13 year olds.
William Moseley would most definitely be the perfect Peeta, he must be Peter Pevensie but I can’t think of anyone else being Peeta. And I think it will be lovely if Ellen Page will play Katniss, she got the angst and toughness in her.
Please, Lionsgate listen to the fans.
I totally love the Hunger Games trilogy. Everyone at my school is obsessed with it. Most of the students and teachers were reading it during class the day it came out. I have a good idea for the cast.
Katniss- Lucy Hale
Peeta- William Moseley (I didn’t even know who he was until I looked at his pic. PERFECT PEETA)
Haymitch- Hugh Laurie, but he might be too old.
Gale- Drew Roy
Effie- Kirsten Chenowith
Prim- unkown
Cinna- Hugh Dancy
There is only one person for Peeta………
WILLIAM MOSELEY! He’s perfect!
And Katniss has to be an unknown girl, it’ll give the movie more depth!
And Gale….I don’t really care
But Peeta has to be William Moseley! PLEASE Lionsgate!!!
I love Robert Downey or Hugh Laurie as Haymtch…never thought of those but, God they are perfect. I’m not trying to bait anyone here–but when trying to visualize Finnick I kept seeing Rob Pattinson…and then I started seeing Kristen Stewart as Annie. Who is a character she could actually do pretty well–unhinged, crazy, harmless. I thought that would be a funny cameo for the film of Mockingjay whenever they get to it.
oh. and Katniss–she needs to be played by someone who looks angry. She can only be fiercely beautiful. No soft edges. I want the casting choice to piss people off.
jackson rathbone would be a very good cato… or peeta
and hugh jackman would be a good haymitch
apart from that, i think alot of the characters should be unknowns
whatever happens though, i would really hate to see william moseley as peeta D;
i just cant imagine him being peeta
please plaese PLEASE god not william moseley – or hunter parrish as peeta, PLEASE I BEG!!
PETTTA ================================= JEREMY SUMMMMMMMPPPTEEEERRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cast It:
DDDDD
DD)
Katniss everdeen-Has to be a new girl. No other way for Katniss to be original unless her actor is original too.
Peeta-William Moseley; commencing falling in love now.
Haymitch-Who ever said Robert Downey Jr. Should be given a freakin award.
Effie-Paris Hilton would be nice
Cinna-Whoever said Hugh Dancy is correct; he has the perfect amount of I could be a slightly metrosexual stylist with a backbone.
Prim-Someone the exact opposite of Katniss(Wish it could be shirly temple
I would love to play Katniss! I think I could pull off the look. Not to mention she kinda has some fire like me haha WILLIAM MOSELY for Peeta. He has the cute boyish charm as I pictured Peeta. I fricken fell in love with that guy cuz of the books! For Haymich would be perfect Johnny Depp! Kinda random but I pictured Hayden Christianson for Finnick. Kristen Chenoweth could not be more perfect for Effie. She even said she could pull it off! Hugh Dancy (<3 ) PERFECT for Cinna. He has the perfect blend of metro yet not gay. Love him! Totally and completely OBSESSED with the books! I hope the movie does it justice.
so if this movie is pg-13 it will ruin everyting in this book a big negative on tht….i rlly think that an unknown should play katniss…and whoever does has to be able to sing…and be tough…a closed book….only open to ppl she rlly cares abt….and i agree wit everyone else when they say no kristen stewart…i like her and all….but not for this movie…shes so monotone…and pale def. not a katniss….this movie needs to be rlly close to the book….cause the book is so great that if it aint it will just jank everything up.
William Mosley is the perfect Peeta. He looks exactly like him. I pictured william mosley as peeta the entire time. He is sweet and cute and PERFECT!!!!!!! I dont get why ppl dont love him! I am in love !No one is more perfect for peeta than wiiliam mosley. Hayden Christianson would be a great Finnick. Katniss Kaya Scodelario would be a wonderful katniss. Johnney Deep as Haymitch. He was made for this role!!!! I am in love with these books! Plese Lionsgate listen to the fans!!!!!
i think dakota fanning should be prim and her little sister elle should be rue because katniss says rue reminds her of her sister prim and dakota and elle look so much alike!
i agree with ella that johnny deep should be haymitch
Adam Lambert as Cinna
Johnny Depp as Haymitch
anybody else feel like they shouldnt be perfect? the only people who should be perfect are people from the capitol. and they should be scary perfect at that. get people who aren’t famous. and I’m not saying that because I want to audition or anything. Ex: harry potter. main characters were just kids, and now they’re actors. Please dont screw up this movie!
I think being pg 13 will just ruin it. It will become another twilight fananza rather than the thought provoking book I read. Please don’t make this a drawn out romance movie, I’m actually disappointed this will become a movie bc I’m sure it will ruin how. much I love the book, and Im usually excited for movie adaptations of books. The deaths are necessary for this book and I really don’t see how a pg 13 movie will be able to give this book the credit deserved. Anyways hopefully they choose the right actors not just ones that are popular or known. I already feel like this movie will be a disappointment:(
O hugh laurie as haymitch for sure!!! Or someone like him cant believe I didn’t think of him b4… nobody in this movie should be perfect except the freaky capitol ppl
I lovelovelove these books! If they screw this movie up it will be a disaster! I think the cast should be new actors. I can’t really think of anyone who could play the breathtaking role of Katniss. William Mosely. I can picture him as Peetah!:) he has to lose the accent though. Robert Downey Jr. possibly as Haymitch….and I’m not even sure if it mentioned this in the book, but I always envisioned Cinna with bright blonde hair?…I think the pg13 rating is probable. There wasn’t any cursing or sex so the rest of the rating, I’m assuming, is devoted to the violence? and they can’t compress it into one move. I hope they can portray it in the way how thought provoking and philosophical the books were.
