Lady Gaga’s inventive costumes put her on the map Just a year ago, Lady Gaga was another face of a new artist looking to really break into the scene with hopes of joining the status of legendary performers. As the singer gets ready to take a break from her Monster Ball tour to perform at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, we’re taking a look back into how Gaga stood out from the rest to become one of the biggest singers of today.

In the latest special of “The VMAs: Revealed,” VMA “insiders” have recalled moments from 2009 when her style was all that people could talk about. Dressing Room PA Katie Meath told MTV, “She showed up with racks and racks of clothes. We had five P.A.s carry everything up and we went back for another round.”

Ernesto Elias of MTV Music & Talent said, “The day before the show we had rehearsals. We actually had a stopwatch just timing ourselves. We really didn’t have enough time to take her to her second-floor dressing room. We created a quick-change room right off the side of the stage.”

VMA director Hamish Hamilton recalls that 2009 made everyone become “mesmerized in Gaga-dom,” and it’s safe to say a year later we still are.

Gaga will perform at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards that airs live at 9 p.m. on September 12.
