James Franco on playing gay, but not being gay

HollywoodNews.com: James Franco plays iconic gay poet Allen Ginsberg in ‘Howl’ but is opening up that it’s just a role, not who he is in real life.

Franco opened up to ‘The Advocate’ and revealed that if he were gay, he would say so because affecting his career wouldn’t deter him from that decision, states Just Jared. And because he has played gay roles in his career, he finds that people think that’s who he is, just like the fact that he played a stoner role and now he is assumed to be a stoner.

But just because he is dealing with these beliefs from fans doesn’t mean he will stop playing these roles: “In this history of cinema, there are so many heterosexual love stories. It’s so hammered, so done. It’s just not that interesting to me.”
