‘Toy Story 3,’ ‘Dragon’ and ‘Airbender’ get DVD release dates

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Some major DVD announcements coming across the wire this morning.

In an e-mail sent to DisneyDVD subscribers, the studio revealed that “Toy Story 3” will be available on Nov. 2 in DVD, Blu-ray and downloadable format. Also opening that day: “Cars Toon: Mater’s Tall Tales,” as the studio ramps up anticipation for “Cars 2.”

Two weeks later, Paramount will release this summer’s July 4 event picture, “The Last Airbender,” director M. Night Shyamalan’s adaptation of the popular animated series. Arriving in a DVD/Blu-ray Combo pack, single disc DVD and single disc Blu-ray on Nov. 16, “The Last Airbender” stars Noah Ringer (Cowboys & Aliens) as Aang, the lone Avatar, with Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), Jackson Rathbone (Twilight saga) and Nicola Peltz (Deck The Halls). The DVD/Blu-ray Combo pack boasts over two hours of in-depth, behind-the-scenes special features including a nine-part documentary on the making of the film, a featurette entitled “Origins of the Avatar,” which documents the creative transformation of the hit animated series to the big screen, picture-in-picture insights from the cast and crew that deconstruct some of the amazing action and visual effects sequences, deleted scenes, outtakes and more. The film also will be available as a single disc DVD or single disc Blu-ray, both of which include “Origins of the Avatar,” deleted scenes and outtakes.

Paramount also revealed that the animated smash “How to Train Your Dragon” will be released on DVD, Double DVD Pack, and Blu-ray Combo Pack on a special date – Friday, Oct. 15 – so be on the lookout.

Over at Warner, the studio announced Blu-ray releases for six new titles: “Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore 3D;” “Clash of the Titans 3D;” “The Polar Express 3D;” “IMAX Deep Sea 3D;” “IMAX Under the Sea 3D;” and “IMAX Space Station 3D.” All will be available on Nov. 16.
