Mel Gibson still has support from Jodie Foster

By Greg Hernandez

HollywoodNews.com: I have a friend who hasn’t spoken to me for months because there was no food at the after-party of an event I invited him to. Mel Gibson wouldn’t have a chance with this dude!

But Jodie Foster is a far more forgiving type.

The two-time Oscar winner is standing by her “Maverick” co-star who she directed in the new movie “The Beaver.”

Mel, of course, has fallen from grace in recent years starting with his anti-semitic remarks to police when he was arrested for drunk driving. Then earlier this year, taped phone calls surfaced of him making a series of disturbing remarks to ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva with whom he has a child.

“When you love a friend, you don’t abandon them when they are struggling,” Foster tells More magazine. “Of course, Mel is an undeniably gifted actor and director, and ‘The Beaver’ is one of his most powerful and moving performances. But more importantly, he is and has been a true and loyal friend. I hope I can help him get through this dark moment.”
