“Captain America” photos and footage show Hayley Atwell in action

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: In the age of cell phone cameras and YouTube, it’s very difficult for any Hollywood studio to keep a tentpole production under wraps during filming.

Which explains, to a certain extent, how we are able to have decent photographs and handheld footage of Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter on the set of Joe Johnston’s “Captain America: The First Avenger.” The superhero adventure currently is filming in London, with Chris Evans (not pictured) in the lead role.

Check out the pictures below if you want to see the period detail of the World War II-set thriller. While we don’t get great images of Atwell, we do get excellent footage of a vintage car blowing up. Nice work, amateur paparazzi.

“Captain America,” of course, is part of Marvel’s grand scheme to introduce many of its major heroes on screen ahead of an “Avengers” picture. “Thor” will hit theaters first in May 2011, with “Cap” following in July.

Stay tuned for more information as it arrives.
