“Glee” Snags Harry Potter…Sort Of
By Hanako M. Ricks
HollywoodNews.com: A new casting announcement has been made for the new season of the popular television series, “Glee”, and the show may find themselves with a whole new set of fans because of it.
Darren Criss has been announced to play Blaine, a gay character who befriends Kurt on the popular television hit series “Glee”. Although Criss has made previous appearances on television (he played the role of Josh burton for five episodes of the series “Eastwick”, and he has appeared on an episode of the drama “Cold Case”), Criss is more widely known as part of Team StarKid, whose two musicals “A Very Potter Musical” and “A Very Potter Sequel” have become internet sensations and launched Team StarKid into celebrities within the Harry Potter fandom .
Team StarKid’s debut of “Sequel” this past July at fan conference Infinitus was easily the most popular event of the weekend; fans waited in line for up to 7 hours just to guarantee themselves a spot to see the production’s debut. Criss plays the title character of Harry Potter in both musicals.
Ironically, Team StarKid’s compilation album, “A Very StarKid Album” topped the “Glee” soundtrack earlier this summer on the iTunes charts.
Although Criss’ character initially befriends Kurt, there is a possibility that the storyline will change that friendship to one of romance, as it has been heavily rumored that Kurt will get a boyfriend in season 2.
