“True Grit” teaser trailer, with Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges, gallops online

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: According to the teaser trailer for Joel and Ethan Coen’s “True Grit” remake, we’ll be getting a heaping helping of retribution this Christmas.

Check out the high-definition trailer here.

“Grit” remakes the 1969 John Wayne western (Duke actually won an Oscar for the role Jeff Bridges will play in the update). In the film, drunken, surly Marshal Cogburn (Bridges) helps a young girl (Hailee Steinfeld) track down her father’s murderer.

Matt Damon and his mutton-chops will play La Boeuf, Cogburn’s employer who insists on accompanying the vigilante party. (Glen Campbell played the character in the original.) Josh Brolin and Barry Pepper will fill in supporting parts. Steinfeld looks great as young Mattie Ross. And the trailer suggests more action than what I remember from the ’69 version of this story.

“True Grit” will be in theaters on Christmas Day.
