Darren Aronofsky also being lured to helm ‘Preacher’

HollywoodNews.com: Whenever there’s heat on a director, there’s always a number of offers that come their way.

As “Black Swan” continues to generate award season buzz, the pic’s helmer Darren Aronofsky is eyeing another comic-book project in addition to the “Superman” re-boot: the “Preacher” series.

“Preacher” is a DC comic created by Garth Ennis that was published between 1995 and 2000.

Digital Spy describes the film’s plot as follows: “The series focuses on a Texan preacher named Jesse Custer who becomes possessed by a powerful demon and must travel across America to find God as a result.”

Sam Mendes was attached before fleeing to the next James Bond film which remains in limbo. However, given the release date for “Superman” and “Preacher,” Aronofsky could only tackle one film.

It is largely in his best interest to select “Superman” given that the lesser-known DC projects, i.e. “Jonah Hex” and “V for Vendetta,” tend to play to less than mass crowds.
