Colin Firth wants to get to the bottom of Meredith Kercher murder

HollywoodNews.com: Colin Firth and director Michael Winterbottom are developing a film about U.S. murderer Amanda Knox who offed her college roommate while studying abroad in Italy.

Firth plans to co-write the script and star as a journalist who needs to solve the murder of victim Meredith Kercher, whose life Knox took. Winterbottom is no stranger to psycho killers having recently directed the Sundance entry “The Killer Inside Me.” The duo plan to adapt U.S. journalist Barbie Latza Nadeau’s book ‘Angel Face: The True Story of Student Killer Amanda Knox.’

Firth lives in Italy in his off time and has allegedly taken an interest in Knox’s case where last December she was convicted by an Italian jury, with questionable evidence, for a 26 year-prison term for charges of sexual assault and the horrific murder of her roommate Kercher in the quiet city of Perugia, Italy.

Says Winterbottom to The Sun, “The case is interesting and at the heart of the story there is a tragedy.”

Out of respect for Kercher’s family, the night of her death in November 2007 won’t be played out in the film.

“The idea would be that ultimately there isn’t an answer, it’s all a puzzle… When you read about the case, there seems to be no convincing explanation for what happened.”

This is NOT true. There is NO MYSTERY about this case. Meredith Kercher arrived home a bit before 9pm and she surprised Rudy Guede robbing the cottage after breaking in through a window. He raped and murdered her. Grabbed her phones, keys and money and left. The cell phoned pinged at at tower it never had before at 10:13 pm. The whole thing happened between 8:56pm and 10:13 pm. We know who, when and how. There is NO mystery in this case. It was a tragic burglar surprised in action and rape and murder resulting. It is only at the hands of a crazy prosecutor and corruption that Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were wrongfully convicted.

Speaking of psychopaths how will the prosecutor’s conviction for abuse of power in the Monster of Florence case figure in this telling of the story?

Jezzi got it right. The crime itself was brutal and horrible, but not a mystery. The story here is the aftermath – the lengths to which authorities will go to conceal their mistakes, the way the media eats it up because it’s a good story, and the capacity of the public to be manipulated and deceived. To understand this case, one needs to understand other cases where the same thing has happened, and there are a great many. The Dreyfus Affair is a good starting point. From there, one might proceed to the cases of Lindy Chamberlain, Barry George, Kelly Michaels, the Birmingham Six, the Norfolk Four, the West Memphis Three, Ochoa and Danziger, Hernandez and Cruz… all involving innocent people who were convicted in a court of law.

I have no doubt whatsoever that Amanda and Raffaele are innocent people and had nothing to do with this terrible crime. The sole culprit is RUDY GUEDE – he should be serving a life sentence, with no parole/no early release. Life should mean life for Guede – he should never be released back into society. This man is a danger to women.

Amanda and Raffaele have been wrongly convicted and should be free and exonerated on Appeal. Good luck to Amanda and Raffaele with their Appeals.

I agree with Jezzi.. The question isn’t ‘who killed Meredith Kercher?’ , it’s ‘Who, if anyone, helped Rudy Guede kill Meredith?’ and what evidence exists (or doesn’t exist) to support it? All I ask is that the filmmaker be fair and accurate.. Use only what is supported by REAL evidence… not rumor, ennuendo or appearance.. We don’t need another Joe McGinnis/ (Fatal Vision) making up ‘facts” to make his story more interesting… We already have Prosecutor Mignini to do that…

Interesting that they state that they will not “play out” the events of the night of Meredith Kercher’s death, out of respect to the family. You can’t possibly tell the story of the criminal charges levied against Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, as well as Rudy Guede, without discussing the evidence against them. And that necessarily includes the events of the night of the murder. It will be interesting at best to see where they can draw the line since much of the prosecution’s case is based on theories of three participants engaged first in satanic ritual, then drug crazed sex orgy gone wrong, and so on. And much if not all of it is hotly disputed.

I can’t help but think that the sentence which states this “out of respect” notion is just a shallow attempt to win public acquiescence and approval, even though anything more than a shallow reflection on that statement reveals it is meaningless.

The only way it could not be meaningless, is if the story line was to focus entirely on the shenanigans of the prosecution and the media for instance in releasing untruth after untruth to the public and the logical tainting of the minds of the jury pool. But even that requires some discussion of the events.

I’ll bet, out of respect for the all mighty pound, the producers cut in the scene of Meredith’s murder at the last minute before they toss this turkey to the theatres. If it’s not about Meredith’s murder, what’s it about? A guy pondering a mystery over his typewriter? My money’s on Hayden Pennettiere.

Ask Steve Moore for his thoughts on this… if he wants accuracy.

Amanda and Raffaele are totally innocent thefe is only one coulprit which is Rudy his evidence is everywhere. He has had problems with breakiing in through a window which happened also has a problem bothering women, and he even had a scuffle with a knife before all this. He deserves life. Amanda has NO history of violence, and there is absoulutely no motive on why she would do this . I am 100% sure that Amanda and Raff are innocent and the truth will come out. This makes me sick that they are still there for nothing.

No, no mystery. The right people are in jail. The only possible reason for making a film would be to show how the evidence put them there and SHUT UP the Knox family and the obsessed wierdos who follow them around like lemmings, speading lies all over the internet. Give it a rest. The only victims here are Meredith and Meredith´s family, who you will not leave alone. I´m disgusted with Firth and Winterbottom – who apparantly thinks the real violence directed against women isn´t enough and he needs to put more of it on the screen. All credit to the 99.99 percent of US viewers who managed NOT to fall for the PR machine. Never has so much airtime and so much sympathy been given to a murderer´s family, with absolutely zero balance or questioning. As for the Amanda Knox Story, gag, which one? There´ve been so many…
