Jennifer Grey’s cancer found during a routine check up: now has clean bill of health
HollywoodNews.com: Jennifer Grey says a ‘Dancing With the Stars’ check-up led doctors to discover she had cancer.
The ‘Dirty Dancing’ star went for a physical last year after being invited to do the hit ballroom show. But doctors found she still had serious neck damage from a 1987 car crash with then boyfriend Matthew Broderick just days before ‘Dirty Dancing’ made her a star.
“I was in a very serious car accident in Ireland, with two fatalities in the other car, and my boyfriend at the time was very seriously injured,” Grey recalled on Good Morning America.
“The collision was so intense that the ligaments were ripped from the back of my neck and I would have a headache for four days where I could barely open my eyes.”
After telling Grey she had to delay ‘Dancing With the Stars’, surgeons replaced a damaged disk in her neck with a titanium plate. But during the surgery they also discovered a lump in her neck which turned out to be cancerous.
Grey then had the lump removed. Now ‘Baby’ has a clean bill of health and is a strong favorite to win the current series of the show with partner Derek Hough.
