‘Zoolander’ sequel will ‘blow your mind’ says scribe
HollywoodNews.com: “Zoolander” fans, there is hope.
Turns out a sequel to the 2001 film, per writer Justin Theroux, has a good chance of moving forward. The scribe has just finished a first draft of the screenplay per MTV News who spoke with him at the New York Comic-Con.
“Zoolander” tells the story about an offbeat male fashion model played by Ben Stiller. He’s always at odds with his cat-walking foe Hansel, portrayed by Owen Wilson. The comedy was released soon after Sept. 11, generating only $61 million worldwide at the B.O. In the wake of its theatrical run, “Zoolander” has developed a cult following on DVD.
Remarking on the sequel, Theroux exclaimed, “It’s too funny – it’ll blow your mind.”
Storyline revolves around Zoolander and Hansel trying to get back into the fashion world after hitting 40.
Will Ferrell is expected to return as the stylistic baddie designer Mugatu while Jonah Hill will star in a new role.
Says Theroux, “We start off with them in a pretty bad place… They’re about to ring 40’s bell. They have to claw their way back into the fashion industry in some way or another.”
In addition to Mugatu, the writer adds “There are a couple new villains that step onto the stage, which we are all very happy about. And yes, Jonah is the inspiration for one of them.”
