Vince Vaughn on ‘Dilemma’ joke: ‘Comedy brings us together’

HollywoodNews.com: Vince Vaughn doesn’t’ want Universal studios to cave into gay social groups’ demands over his upcoming romantic comedy “The Dilemma.”

The romantic comedy, which stars Kevin James and is directed by Ron Howard, came under fire by gay and lesbian groups after its trailer featured a gay slur. It was a matter of poor timing by the studio as the trailer was released following a number of gay teen suicides in the news. Those offended by “Dilemma” want any gay humor references edited out of the film.

“Let me add my voice of support to the people outraged by the bullying and persecution of people for their differences, whatever those differences may be,” Vaughn told Deadline.

“Comedy and joking about our differences breaks tension and brings us together,” adds the comedic actor.

“Drawing dividing lines over what we can and cannot joke about does exactly that; it divides us. Most importantly, where does it stop?”

“The Dilemma” is set to bow on January 14, 2011.
