“Paranormal Activity 2” previews scare up positive reactions

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: “Paranormal Activity 2” screened last night in select cities to thousands of fans (and a handful of critics), and the buzz that emerged for the anticipated sequel was scary good.

“For a goodly portion of the film’s length the assorted, ominous skitterings, crashes, and thumps emanating from the theater’s speakers were more than matched in volume by audience cries of ‘Oh, s—,’ ‘No,’ ‘Oh, my god,’ ‘F— this s—,’ and ‘Not the basement!’” reports EW.com’s Clark Collis, who was at a Manhattan screening late last night.

Twitter also exploded with “Paranormal” reactions, most of them overwhelmingly positive.

Todd Gilchrist, a contributor to this site as well as the Wall Street Journal, wrote, “I gotta keep it real – ‘Paranormal Activity 2’ is scarier and more effective than the original. I’m genuinely freaked out afterward.”

Drew McWeeny of HitFix adds, “Wow. Color me pleasantly shocked.”

While Steve Prokopy, better known as Capone at AICN, Tweeted, “I declare #ParanormalActivity2 a scarier, more satisfying horror experience.”

Will audiences join in their enthusiasm? I get to see “Paranormal Activity 2” at a media sneak tonight, and this early response certainly raises my hopes. The sequel opens everywhere at midnight.
