James Cameron-produced “Fantastic Voyage” remake scores writer

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Team “Avatar” is moving ahead on its planned remake of the 1966 sci-fi adventure “Fantastic Voyage.”

Laeta Kalogridis has been hired to rewrite the shooting script for 20th Century Fox. A producer on James Cameron’s “Avatar,” Kalogridis also wrote and produced “Shutter Island” with Martin Scorsese. His challenge will be to update the dated story about scientists who shrink to molecule size, board a mini submarine, and enter a scientist’s body to save the man’s life.

Cameron won’t direct “Voyage,” however. He remains buried in “Avatar” coverage, prepping a sequel as he continuously tinkers on the original. He’s also reportedly circling a 3-D version of “Cleopatra” that, earlier this week, tapped Angelina Jolie’s name as a rumored candidate.

Instead of helming the “Voyage” remake, Cameron will produce with his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
