‘Goonies 2’ not in sight

HollywoodNews.com: What a bummer.

At a recent celebration for the 25th anniversary release of 1985 cult film “The Goonies” on DVD, Richard Donner and cast members squashed rumors that a sequel might happen.

“There have been talks for so many years and I know that a lot of us are for it,” Jonathan Ke Quan (Data) told Collider. “But honestly, I don’t think it’s ever going to happen, if it was going to happen it would’ve happened many years ago.”

Co-star Corey Feldman (Mouth) mentioned that there were several scripts for sequels, but none gained momentum.

“If Richard Donner was at the helm and Steven Spielberg got behind it, yeah I’d be there,” said Feldman, “But at this point I don’t think it’s going to happen because we’re all getting too old.”

Spielberg was the exec producer on the first “Goonies” which also starred a number of young actors who have gone on to major successes in Hollywood including Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Joe Pantoliano. Released in the summer of 1985, “Goonies” minted over $61 million at the domestic box office.
