James Franco is the new Jason Bourne?

HollywoodNews.com: Rumors swirled Thursday that “Jason Bourne” screenwriter and director Tony Gilroy was eager to meet James Franco at the premiere of his new film “127 Hours.”

Page Six thinks that Gilroy might be considering Franco as Matt Damon’s replacement for the “Bourne” series. Damon recently mentioned that he wouldn’t return for a fourth installment unless Paul Greengrass was at the helm. Gilroy was recently tapped to direct the next “Bourne” sequel.

Franco is generating plenty of heat as a best actor contender this award season.

A source close to Gilroy said “He was just there to see the movie.”

Fox Searchlight bows “127 Hours” this Friday in New York and Los Angeles.
