“Pirates of the Caribbean” poster has itself a silver skull

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum. The first official teaser for the next “Pirates of the Caribbean” has arrived. Ho hum?

OK, to be fair, there’s nothing inherently wrong with this teaser, which was posted over the weekend at IMP Awards.com. It lets people know that there’s another “Pirates” on the way. It tells them the anticipated sequel will open on May 20, and will be presented in 3D and IMAX. And the poster’s design mimics “Pirates” posters from the original Disney films, establishing some form of continuity.

But where’s Johnny Depp in character as Jack Sparrow? Where is Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa? No early glimpse at female co-stars Gemma Ward, Judi Dench or Penelope Cruz?! Or even a hint of Ian McShane’s Blackbeard?

There’s still plenty of time to tease. And I’m positive there will be more materials leaking over the next few months. But the “Pirates” campaign has set sail. Off we go!
