Pixar reveals “Cars 2” poster, first trailer!

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Pixar hasn’t bothered with sequels outside of its “Toy Story” franchise. Some have been rumored, but second installments of “Monsters Inc.” and “The Incredibles” – presenting worlds that beg to be explored – have yet to come to fruition.

So it’s a little bit of a surprise that the first Pixar flick to spawn a non-“Toy Story” sequel is “Cars,” the one considered by critics to be a bit of a disappointment. Those same critics probably haven’t been down the toy aisle of a Target or walked through a Disney Store, where “Cars” merchandise outnumbers virtually every other character on a 2-to-1 scale. Lightning McQueen and Mater caught on like wildfire with kids, and they are bound to turn out in droves when “Cars 2” opens next summer.

We are starting to see a few promotional materials for the Pixar sequel, which will follow McQueen and Mater on an international Race of Champions. As McQueen (Owen Wilson) competes against cars from other racing leagues, Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) gets caught up in an international spy story. It sounds clever, but we’ll know more after the trailer drops.

UPDATE! The first trailer for Disney-Pixar’s “Cars 2” has made its way online. Check it out here!
