“Paranormal Activity 3” gets a release date, extending the franchise

By Sean O’Connell Somewhere in our coverage of “Paranormal Activity 2,” it was suggested that Paramount’s spectral series was poised to fill the void left by the “Saw” franchise, which spun its last brutal trick on Halloween audiences last month.

Looks like that’s exactly what’s about to happen.

Paramount has announced that a third “Paranormal Activity” will be in theaters on Oct. 21, 2011. That equals one film per year since the first one premiered to massive box office numbers.

Details are being kept under wraps. We don’t even know who will direct or script the sequel. I also wonder how much more material there’s left to explore. Will this be “Jaws 3,” or is there hope that the “Paranormal” franchise can stretch its legs and get creative.

More on this sequel as it develops.
