Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon in first “Water for Elephants” photo

Hollywoodnews.com: Adaptations of bestselling novels can be a gamble. Sometimes you land on a “Harry Potter” franchise. Other times you swing for the fences on an “Eat Pray Love” adaptation and miss out on a huge chunk of the book’s followers (for whatever reason … I’m still a fan of Ryan Murphy’s “Eat Pray” adaptation and believe it will do better on DVD).

But Francis Lawrence’s planned adaptation of sara Gruen’s “Water for Elephants” has three things in its favor, and that would be Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz. Heck, if half of Pattinson’s “Twilight” fans show up to see the actor play a young veterinary student in the period piece, “Water” will earn serious bank.

We recently stumbled on a promotional image for the film (on Collider, via Algonquin Books) which show the three leads in period garb. Check it out below.

The drama also stars Hal Holbrook, James Frain, Ken Foree, and Paul Schneider. The script credit goes to Richard LaGravenese (“Beloved,” “The Horse Whisperer”).

“Water for Elephants” will be in theaters on April 15.

I’ve read the book and have to say that they needed to cast someone older than Robert or cast someone younger than Reese. Robert looks younger than I have ever seen him and Reese looks older. This makes the love story vulgar . It seems like there is a boytoy going on.

to book is amazing, and i cant wait to see the movie. the pictures look great. rob is the same age as jacob was in the book. as for reese they never gave the age of marlena . i always thought she was older then jacob anyway, because she was younger then august.
