Kate Winslet lets slip some James Bond news?

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: What does Kate Winslet moving back across the pond have to do with the future of the James Bond franchise?

Well, a lot when you consider Winslet’s ex-husband, Sam Mendes, is considered the next in line to direct a 007 mission.

Winslet remains close with Mendes after their split. So when she sat down with the Daily Mail (via HitFix) for an interview, Winslet revealed that she planned to move from New York to London so the couple’s children could be closer to their father while he worked on his next film … which happens to be a Bond film.

“Sam is doing the next Bond film, all being well, and we’ll all be in England if that happens,” Winslet revealed. “It’s such a massive commitment for him and it’s not fair for him to commute backwards and forwards to New York from London. It would be impossible. The children will be there with me.”

With that statement, Winslet may have let the cat out of the bag … though the bag was loosely tied and that kitty saw the light of day a while back. Still, uncertainty swirled around the Bond franchise as MGM put the pieces of its financial puzzle back together, but comments like this from Ms. Winslet suggest that plans are moving forward, and Mendes – who helmed such films as “American Beauty,” “Road to Perdition” and “Away We Go” – might be in the director’s chair for Bond 23.
