Johnny Depp is game for “21 Jump Street” cameo

By Sean O’Connell This is yet another reason why we love Johnny Depp.

In an age where celebrities shun their past accomplishments, somehow believing that the simple act of acknowledging the roles that established their career will wipe the whole gig away, Depp says he’d love to cameo in the planned “21 Jump Street” remake. As you probably know, Depp got his start on the weekly police drama, playing a baby-faced cop who was part of a task force that infiltrated area high schools to stop crimes.

“I’ve said I’m into it,” Depp told MTV while promoting “The Tourist” with Angelina Jolie.

So why hasn’t this been announced yet?

“No one’s actually approached me,” Depp said.

Depp went on to say someone should contact Jonah Hill, who is executive producing as well as starring in the picture.

“Call him. I’m in. I think it’d be pretty easy,” Depp said.

Obviously, this needs to happen. Whether or not it comes to pass is up to the Hollywood powers that be. But if Depp says he’s game, you deal him in. As the man himself says, it’d be pretty easy to make that decision. “21 Jump Street” is due in theaters in 2012 … hopefully with Depp in a minor role.
