Chevy and Jayni Chase are the doGOODERS of the week
HollywoodNews.com: Holllywood icon Chevy Chase and his wife Jayni have a simple goal: To ensure that kids live well and make smart choices. With GREEN Community Schools, an initiative of the MGR Foundation chaired by Chase’s wife Jayni Chase, they’re accomplishing that goal one school at a time.
As a mother of three daughters, Jayni took it upon herself to learn about the environmental and health conditions in their schools. What she found shocked her. Since then, she has been fighting to create schools that foster healthy lives. Today, Jayni Chase has over 20 years of experience with Green education and environmental community action.
With the MGR Foundation, she is working to create centers of learning that focus on the very things that sustain us — air, water and soil to grow our food. GREEN Community Schools (GCS) transforms school buildings into centers for green development, spreading environmental literacy and awareness. Their programs help teachers provide children with lessons that will give practical, hands-on knowledge about living sustainably. By building long-term holistic partnerships between the school, local community residents, stakeholders, resources and families, MGR and Jayni ensure that the community is environmentally aware and able to successfully practice and promote sustainability in their lives, communities and around the world.
Chevy Chase works to help the organization achieve a sustainable future for kids around the country with his yearly GREEN Schools Auction on charitybuzz, where he pulls out all the stops and cashes in all his favors to amass a jaw-dropping collection of experiences to raise funds. Chevy also contributes his time to many other environmental initiatives. In 2010, he judged the CoolClimate Art Contest and hosted the first annual Christie’s Green Auction: A Bid to Save the Earth, in addition to donating countless experiences on charitybuzz to fund organizations like Barnard College, Sophia’s Cure and the Samuel Waxman Foundation.
