Sir Paul McCartney charity auction grosses $130,000

HollywoodNews.com: One lucky Paul McCartney fan had his Christmas wish granted yesterday! The chance to meet Sir Paul McCartney backstage at his upcoming Dec 13th show at the iconic Apollo Theater in New York was auctioned for a whopping $130,000 after 10 days of frenzied bidding at leading charity auction site charitybuzz.com, making it the highest grossing celebrity package of the season. The auction comes on the heels of an $80,000 bid to meet “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson earlier this week.

As part of the exclusive Paul McCartney package, the winner and a guest will have the rare opportunity to see McCartney and his band’s soundcheck prior to the Apollo show, meet McCartney and snap photos before he takes the stage, and enjoy VIP seats for the performance. The experience was auctioned as part of Chevy Chase’s GREEN Schools Auction and benefits The GREEN Community Schools Model Initiative, which works to provide our nations’ children with healthy schools and sustainable lives. The show is part of Paul McCartney’s sold out Christmas tour, which will take him across Britain in addition to his New York performance. It marks the first time the legendary Beatle will play the Apollo Theater. For those without tickets, Paul McCartney will also be performing this Saturday, Dec 11th, on Saturday Night Live. Paul McCartney scored three Christmas number ones in a row with The Beatles, while his solo career has brought festive hits such as ‘Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time’.
