Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Cruise circling “Rock of Ages” musical?

By Sean O’Connell Was Gwyneth Paltrow’s “Glee” guest spot an audition for an even bigger project?

It’s possible. Adam Shankman, director of “Hairspray” as well s the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway smash “Rock of Ages,” has revealed that Ms. Paltrow has been offered a lead role in the film … and she may be bringing a fellow A-lister with her.

“It sounds cool,” Paltrow said to “I just got the script and I will read it on the plane home tomorrow. But it sounds like it could be fun.”

And who might join her in the musical production?

EW reports that Tom Cruise is “in discussions” to take a role in “Rock,” though nothing has been signed on the dotted line.

In the meantime, Paltrow confirmed that she’ll likely return to “Glee” for a few episodes, and is contemplating a mini-tour with “Country Strong” co-star Tim McGraw.
