James Caan Lends His Voice as ‘Jalapeno’

hollywoodnews.com: James Caan, the Academy Award-nominated actor and Chairman of Openfilm.com, spices up his recent Internet foray by lending his voice as “Jalapeno,” a suave and debonair chili pepper, who is spicy but not at all a hollow-peno, in the wildly successful web series “The Annoying Orange.” Caan’s counterpart and the core character in the lighthearted webisode is an energetic citrus with zest for telling jokes and doing tricks on his fellow vegetable and fruit friends. “The Annoying Orange,” created by Dane Boedigheimer for Gag Films, is a web series sensation that has juiced its competition for viewers. Since its debut in October 2009, the series has accumulated more than 200 million views, making it one of the top 10 most subscribed channels on YouTube. James Caan’s appearance is the series’ first by a famous Hollywood actor.

Last year, Caan entered the online media world by agreeing to lead Openfilm.com, a burgeoning online independent film community. Since then, he has become increasingly intrigued with cutting edge platforms for film, television and social media and finding ways for young talented filmmakers to use these new tools to get their films made and seen by mass audiences.

“It’s amazing what the Internet can do for independent artists,” said Caan. “The studio movies of today are mostly grand productions. For those people who want to make smaller, more character-driven stories for the big screen, the Internet offers incredible opportunities for them to gain initial exposure and momentum for their films.”

Caan added that Openfilm’s goal is to reach as many filmmakers and film lovers as possible and to make great, original feature films from its Get It Made competition. After learning about “The Annoying Orange” and its viral popularity Caan wanted to join the fun and be part of the sizzling series that reaches audiences of all ages.

Caan’s performance as “Jalapeno” on “The Annoying Orange” can be seen on www.openfilm.com on Saturday, December 18, 2010.
