Howard Stern attacks Jay Leno on Piers Morgan’s new show

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Piers Morgan’s new evening talk show, formerly hosted by Larry King on CNN, is off to a rip-roaring start. His debut episode, which benefited from Oprah Winfrey in the guest chair, drew nearly 2.1 million viewers, according to CBS News.

It remains to be seen how much of that was the “newness” of Morgan’s program, the Winfrey appearance, or both. And we’ll want to see if Morgan can retain this newfound audience as he settles in to King’s former slot.

Having “King of All Media” Howard Stern on last night’s program probably helped his cause. Usually a lighting rod of controversy, Stern went after Jay Leno and opened up about pornography. Surprise, surprise.

“Jay Leno isn’t fit to scrub Letterman’s feet,” Stern told Morgan. He’s always been a Letterman guy, and recently began taking Leno to task on his daily Sirius/XM radio program.

“I don’t know why he’s beaten David Letterman in the ratings. … It’s beyond my comprehension. America must be filled with morons, who at night lay in bed, the ones that are watching him, must be in a coma.”

Business Insider, commenting on Morgan’s first few episodes, said, “If they keep booking good guests it’s hard to see how CNN doesn’t have a hit on its hands.”
